PUSAT KEBAJIKAN GOOD SHEPHERD – ASRAMA DESA PUKAK
Good Shepherd has been helping women and children through a variety of programmes in Malaysia for the past 50 years. Its aim is to help women in need or distress, become independent and in turn help their children to better themselves through education.
CAM is supporting one of their programmes in Sabah (approx. 1 ½ hours from KK) – Asrama Desa Pukak. ADK programme is a hostel built two years ago to house children in proverty from the rural villages in Sabah. Run jointly by Good Shepherd and the villagers, these children from impoverished homes, would otherwise have to walk 2 ½ hours per day to attend school and return home. Obviously, the school attendance was intermittent and these children were subject to continue the cycle of poverty. With the building of ADK, 28 children now have housing, education, food, life skills programmes and care from Sunday until Friday, when they walk home to spend the weekends with their families. CAM is supporting 4 of these children from the rural villages for one year.
Visitors are encouraged to visit and stay overnight and see the benefits of this programme.
