CAM's charity projects

Rumah Shalom (Peaceful Home)

Located in Puchong, this charitable organization was formed in 1997 to provide shelter for 29 children. These children aged 15 years and under, come from very poor, broken homes and have had very tragic pasts such as abandonment, assault or sexual abuse. CAM endeavors to provide the children of Rumah Shalom:

  • Shelter: a loving, caring home environment for the children
  • Sense of self-worth: an opportunity to develop their identity
  • Security: to give them hope, a new life and a better future

Tara Bhavan (Star Home)

Located in Kg Kasipillay, Tara Bhavan was established in February 1999 and is home to approximately 30 boys and girls. Its primary mission is to provide a conducive environment and a brighter future for the children. At Tara Bhavan, emphasis is given to tradition, religion, culture and instilling spiritual values with priority given to education, so the children will be able to become independent.

Bakis Kuala Kubu Bharu
(Badan Amal Bagi Kanak-kanak/Dewasa Istimewa, Selangor)

Click on photo thumbnail to view larger versionLocated in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Bakis was established in 1990 as a charitable body, to run 2 independent houses for adults with special needs (Down Syndrome, autism and mental disabilities). This charity is operated by 2 very dedicated people who believe that these special adults need proper education and training to enable them to cope with the norms and needs of society. Bakis currently provides shelter to 6 girls and 10 boys aged between 14 and 40.

Bakis has recently had a major fire in their house and are living in temporary quarters in the hopes that they can raise enough funds to purchase a permanent home to live in.

Home of Peace in Taman Seputeh

Home of Peace began operations in 1996. It is managed by one permanent staff member, a part-time cook and a full-time volunteer, who both live-in with the children. Home of Peace shelters 11 girls aged 5 to 18, who have come from squatter villages.

Thanks to help from different associations, communities, and friends, Home of Peace finally moved into their new home on December 18th. Even though there will be many renovations to be done, they are very happy to finally own a home and not having to live in the fear of having their lease terminated.

Their objectives are:

  • To cater for the needs of abused, neglected and orphaned children
  • To assist these children in their studies by providing education in schools or tuition
  • To guide the children back to their families where possible, or to arrange for fostering through lawful means.

Home of Peace has also established an outreach feeding program for 22 families from squatter villages and accepts donations of food and clothing for distribution to these families.

PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY!

Those children
will thrive on your love and support!

The homes that CAM sponsors would benefit greatly with your loving support given in the form of fundraising and/or volunteering.

If you have even just a small amount of time on a regular basis to go to these homes to help these children with their studies, teach them new games, songs, take them on outings or just spend time with them to help give them the love all children need to thrive and grow to become healthy, happy adults, please contact the CAM Charities Committee.
